The Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, Orange County, California.
Designed by architect Philip Johnson
Its floor plan is in the shape of a four-pointed star, with three balconies.
It has a seating capacity of nearly 3000.
We went there for our friends' wedding.
On Oct 18, 2010, this mega-church filed for bankruptcy. On one hand, it is sad to see any church failed financially.
On the other hand, Robert Schuller and his successors over-emphasis the gospels of positive thinking and success. They created an illusion that their magnificent building is a sign of God’s blessing and approval. It is poetic justice to see the Schuller Family's brand of prosperity gospel ended in financial ruin.
June 30, 2013 was the last day Schuller’s church worshiped here. I revisited on the day before. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange was ready to move in. They were preparing to celebrate their new home, which will be renamed the Christ Cathedral.
