St. Petersburg

Founded by Czar Peter the Great as his new capital and named after the Apostle Peter in 1703, this city on the Baltic coast is the most Westward looking of all Russian cities.
Since the fall of the Soviet Empire in 1991, the city is no longer named after a Communist dictator, but changed back to its original name.
