Santosh Poonen and Bud Osterberg make their second attempt at Mount Shasta's Hotlum/Wintun Ridge.

Now, Mt. Shasta (14,162 ft. 4317 m.) is one of those peaks that I should have climbed at some point long ago, but never got around to. After many scheduled dates - canceled by weather, or scheduling conflicts - Santosh Poonen and I (Bud Osterberg) drove up in late June 2002 to attempt a climb. We were about an hour into the approach hike when my feet got so badly blistered that we had to abort the climb. Two weeks later, on July 13, 2002 we were back, armed with every blister treatment I could find, for a Bastille day weekend on the mountain.
