Mustagh Ata (June/July 2017)

Sepp and I self-organized a Muztagh Ata (24,636ft) back-country ski trip into the Pamir mountains in western China, bordering to Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan. We tagged along with local organizers that had never organized anything for westerners. Communication was almost entirely limited to google-translate except with the English-speaking Nepalese porters and guides the Chinese expedition employed. Our arrangement was for permits, transport from Kashgar, and food supplies in basecamp. Sepp und ich organisierten auf eigene Faust eine Skitour auf Muztagh Ata (7509 m) ins Pamir-Gebirge im Westen Chinas, an der Grenze zu Kirgisistan und Pakistan. Wir schlossen uns lokalen Organisatoren an, die noch nie etwas für Westler organisiert hatten. Die Kommunikation beschränkte sich fast ausschließlich auf Google-Übersetzung, außer mit den englischsprachigen nepalesischen Trägern und Führern, die die chinesische Expedition beschäftigte. Unsere Vereinbarung umfasste Genehmigungen, Transport von Kaschgar und Lebensmittelversorgung im Basislager.
