Tried to get up to the fall color show last year but only got as far as Brevard. This year we were successful. Started in Atlanta, and then drove up through northern GA into western North Carolina, alongside the Nantahala River and then to the start/end of the Blue Ridge Parkway in Cherokee . One of the best views I've seen on the east coast. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park has over 100 species of trees and 1,500 vascular plants, most of any national park. Compare that with the west coast's some 18 tree species. Ended up in Asheville, NC and the Biltmore Estate. Some very nice restaurants in Asheville. All in all, very nice road trip.
