In the end of May, my wife and I took a trip to Paris. Due to horrible weather on our departure date, planes were late, we missed a connecting flight, our substitute flight was delayed several hours, and just about anything else you could imagine. We ended up arriving in Paris 7 hours late and exhausted, so we really missed out on our entire first day (so we'll call that Day 0). On Day 0 we got from the airport to our hotel, went out for dinner, and went back and fell asleep. We were left with only 6 whole days to explore the many sights of the city, but we made the most of it.
On Day 1, we walked a whole 12-mile loop through the city, hitting many of the less time consuming attractions. Day 2 was spent mostly at the Louvre. Day 3 was supposed to be a more restful day spent on the island (Ile de la Cite), but several attractions were on strike and closed, so we rearranged our schedule for the week to do other things that day. Day 4 was supposed to be a more restful day (to make up for Day 3), but when we started walking along the Seine at the Louvre, by the time we ended up at the Eiffel Tower we knew that wasn't happening. By the end of Day 4 we had already seen all of our intended destinations, thus Days 5 and 6 were spent picking locations seemingly at random from the map and tourist brochures. We stumbled on a lot of good things at the end. Finally, Day 7 we got up very early, and headed out for the airport. Luckily, everything worked out perfectly and we arrived home right on schedule.
