We had arranged our own travel Sydney-to-Hanoi with an overnight stop in Saigon. Our arrival in Hanoi was on Day 1 of Griswalds' itinerary for our "Grand Tour of Vietnam". As we were still not convinced that Griswalds really existed, we were relieved to find a young man at Hanoi airport arrivals, holding a card with my name on it, and carrying a large bunch of flowers for Frances. He introduced himself as Dzung, explained that it was pronounced "Zoom" as in motorcycle, or close enough if we weren't going to attempt Vietnamese.
Dzung looked after us admirably. His best trick was to bundle us into a taxi without him, tell the driver something we couldn't understand, then get on his motorbike and teleport himself to our destination so he could open the taxi door for us when we arrived.
