Havana Museums

We didn't see all the museums in Havana - there are many! Note there are two very different museums both referred to as the "Fine Arts Museum." One is in a beautiful classical building with lots of marble stairs and gilded decorations, but hot when we were there despite a large unrepaired hole for ventilation, and a fairly sparse and restricted variety of art. This is the one I have labelled as Palacio de Bellas Artes. The other is a 1950s Guggenheim-type building built around a courtyard, with ramps rather than stairs, air-conditioning, and everything Cuban from colonial to modern abstract art in abundance enough to keep visitors gaping for hours. And a cafe where we had a coffee and a beer while watching a security guard move two poor old men asleep on an air-conditioning outlet outside the floor-to-ceiling window. This is what I labelled the National Museum of Fine Arts. Then there is the Museo de la Revolucion, in a very pre-revolutionary building, where you can learn several floors of Cuban history, and a few interesting things about the involvement of the U.S.A. But beware of alternative facts.
