The manakins (Pipridae) are a family of 51 species of small suboscine passerine birds. They are distributed through the American tropics. The name manakin is derived from the Middle Dutch word mannekijn, meaning 'little man'.
Many manakins have spectacular lekking courtship rituals and some have heavily modified wing feathers, which they use to make buzzing and snapping sounds.
