Defoe's fictionalized account of the Great Plague of London makes
for harrowing reading. Most scholars think that Defoe used the
first hand accounts of his uncle, who lived through the plague.

In any case, it is estimated that 100,000 died out of a total
population of about 400,000 to 500,000. Many of the wealthier
citizens fled the city, so the poor were much more affected.
The disease itself was horrific - a terrible way to die.

Defoe's book really gives you a sense of what it would
have been like to live through such a catastrophe.

Nice shot with this lighting and exposure. I prefer Samuel Pepys non-fiction account of the plague in his diaries. Makes for harrowing reading. It also includes the Great Fire of London in 1666.

Beautiful image and I love how you have processed it.

This is one of Defoe's books that I have not read. In the past I preferred books with a happy ending. That is still my preference but lately I have been reading more gloomy topics. I find there is no shortage of gloomy books, so I will add this to my list.

Thank you for sharing. V

A fine capture of what sounds like a scary book. Given the times we find ourselves in, I think I'd be afraid to read it. V.

"It ain't over here till it's over". Many people flaunt it...shockingly

A lovely shot and some good reading for sure, though at present I might lean towards Robinson Crusoe, another Defoe classic, as a means of escape.

Superb light on this still life...V.
Even if the covid is dramatic for so many families we cannot compare to the tragedies of the past when hygiene and medicine were still medieval...

looks like an interesting book for these days.

Harrowing reading for sure. I've been meaning to read about the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic but I'm sure this is more
entertaining a read. V
