(xanthomixis apperti)
Formerly called Appert's Greenbul.
This bird has a world population restricted almost entirely to the small patch of forest which comprises the Zombitse-Vohibasia National Park which straddles both sides of the main road from Toliara-Fianarantsoa. It has been classified as 'vulnerable' with a population estimate of 600-1700 individuals. Within this small area it is usually found quite easily mostly foraging in the leaf litter of the forest floor.
Recently a separate population has been found in the Analavelona Classified Forest, a montane forest 50 km to the west, where it is reported to be common.
