(caprimulgus enarratus)
The Collared Nightjar is endemic to Madagascar being found in rain forest and secondary growth forest in the east and north. In all areas it is uncommon. The best chance of seeing one of these birds is in the popular national park areas like Mantadia and Andasibe (Perinet) where the network of local guides will quickly pass on news of any bird found roosting or nesting.
The bird photographed at Andasibe NP had allighted on the handrail of a small bridge and completely ignored persons walking past only a couple of feet away. Even heavy feet rocking the bridge did not dislodge it.
