Having climbed this active volcano some 8 to 10 years ago, I found that it had changed a lot after the last serious eruption in May, 2010. It is much flatter and broader in the summit area. A very interesting excursion and this time an option of carrying up a stick with which to roast marshmellows with the hot embers of this active volcano. It rises to 2552 meters (8373 ft.). After being dormant for a century it has been erupting continuously since a major eruption in 1965. It is a major tourist attraction but not to be taken lightly. For those not able to hike, horses can be rented. The excursion can easily be booked by all the tourist businesses in Antigua. The approximately 6 hour trip cost under $20. at this time.
