Point of Rocks Station, Maryland (1860s)

This station was built where two Baltimore and Ohio (B&O) Railroad lines converge on the way to Washington, D.C. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 and today is owned by rail company CSX and is still in use as an office.

Building materials include pine bark, spruce cone scales and magnolia leaves in the roof, and palm leaves in the porch gables.

We went to the United States Botanic Garden’s Season’s Greenings exhibit titled “All Aboard,” which showcases historic train stations from around the country made almost entirely from plant materials.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp.

This station is next to an access point for the C&O canal and the Potomac river. I have stopped there a couple of times to watch the trains and take pictures. The station is still in use. It is a stop for MARC trains on the Frederick and Martinsburg lines.
