The New Jersey terminal is the most visited site in Jersey City and used to link passengers from the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island to the rest of the US. After undergoing major repairs in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, it now houses a small museum of Jersey City history.
The Vicksburg rail barge and others like it were built to allow for railroad cars to be loaded onto barges lined with tracks in order to be moved across bodies of water that were otherwise inaccessible to the railroad. Barges still play a significant role in the transport of produce on the Mississippi River. The rail dock is at bottom left.
