James Norman Hall Estate in Arue, Tahiti ( 13.Jan.2006 ) On the outskirt of Papeete in the suburb of Arue is located the past home and current living museum of James Norman Hall, one of the South Pacific's most famous authors. Together with Charles Nordhoff he wrote the classic story of "The Mutiny on the Bounty", which like no other tale of the South Seas ignited fantasies for generations. This story was filmed three times (1935 with Clark Gable, 1962 with Marlon Brando and 1984 with Mel Gibson and Anthony Hopkins. However, this last production was based primarily on historical facts, rather than on Hall/Nordhoff fiction.) The house was moved sidewards from its original location to make room for a modern four-lane road and has been beautifully restored. It hosts a fantastic museum, an absolute "must see" for all travelers to Tahiti.
