This is the sequel to the previous PAD (click "next"). This sequel was taken 23 minutes after the "next" - demonstrating why you want to be on site at least 30 minutes prior to "official" sunrise (I prefer "next").
This shot took a lot of care to compensate for the great difference in tonal levels between the sky and the canyon. The essential steps included using a *reverse* grad neutral density filter to capture the sunrise without blowing out the sky and subsequently using Capture NX's D-Lighting and control points to bring out some of the canyon detail in post-processing. Oh, lastly, stopped the aperture way down to get the star burst (small aperture & just a "touch" of sun peeking over the rim = star burst).
