Day 6: Driving Home to Arizona

All good things must end. That being said, the ride home from a vacation is still part of the vacation. And every drive in the Silver Bullet is a pleasure. We got a fairly early start for our drive home. Our route from Santa Clarita/Valencia via Interstate Highway 210 bypassed the most heavily-traveled part of I-10 near Los Angeles. Although much of I-10 from Angeles to Phoenix could be described as the Big Empty, there are occasional points of interest. Like the grove of dead palm trees near the highway in Desert Center. Or an armored personnel carrier being hauled on the highway. (I could use one of these for navigating Phoenix rush hour traffic.) Or the occasional giant dust devil. We stopped for a late breakfast at the Courtesy Coffee Shop in Blythe (est. 1978). Our food actually was quite delicious, our waitress was friendly and attentive and the place has a funky kind of charm. And it's 1000% more interesting than the blight of fast food restaurants that litter the Blythe landscape. We drove on into Arizona and reflected on our great trip, although, in spite of the summer heat in the Arizona desert, both of us were happy to be returning home.
