Day 3: Disney California Adventure

Judy and I had this day on our own. This was the first time we'd been to Disney California Adventure, so the entire park was new to us. We began with a walk along Buena Vista Street. The Carthay Circle Restaurant, a replica of the historic Carthay Circle Theatre in Los Angeles, has special significance for Judy. Judy lived very close to the Carthay Circle when her family first moved to L.A. and even attended some screenings there. The theatre ultimately was torn down in 1969. At Condor Flats we rode the incredible Soarin' Over California, a virtual hang glide over some of California's most scenic landmarks. We rode the Red Car Trolley, visited with Monsters Inc.'s Mike and Sulley, ate a tasty mid-morning breakfast at Flo's V8 Café and watched the Red Car News Boys dance and sing with Mickey Mouse. Cars Land is the newest California Adventure attraction; it's like the animated movie, Cars, brought to life. There, we saw Lightning McQueen and (Tow) Mater, stars of the film. The scenery included the Cozy Cone Motel, which strongly resembles the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook, AZ where we once stayed while on a motorcycling trip. We rode Mickey's Fun Wheel, a 186' tall Ferris wheel, wisely opting for a "non-swinging" car rather than a "swinging" one (note that the non-swinging cars go higher). Then it was time for our turn in one of the Radiator Springs Racers, the most popular ride in the California Adventure park, and no small wonder! After dinner at the Storyteller's Café (we liked that place), we returned to California Adventure's Paradise Pier area to watch the fantastic World of Color show, a festival of water, fire, laser light and music. We returned to our hotel via a neon-lighted Route 66. Judy was so tired she didn't even notice being followed by a scary mouse-eared zombie.
