Kern River & Whitney Creek - June 1898

John Broder, a rancher and packer living in Visalia, California, published an article in the February 1897 issue of The American Angler magazine in which he extolled the virtues of the Kern River trout and the beautiful golden trout of Whitney Creek. Moore was a frequent contributor to The American Angler and undoubtedly read Broder’s article. A little over a year later he secured the packing services of Broder and headed for the Kern River, taking his fly rods and camera.

Due to snow in the passes, Moore's group was obliged to take the Hockett Trail to the Kern River. He published a lengthy article about this trip in the October 1898 issue of Outing Magazine. It is an excellent read and can be found here:
