neon

(aka: Repairing the Rules)

Broken rule; proper exposure.
With this shot I increased the exposure compensation by +2 stops. In PP, I boosted the colors a bit as they were/are quite blown out.
My reasoning for the 'rule breakage' was to show the power of the neon (contrasting against the black night) & get that nice glow on the sign itself & the building it's attached to.

(My second faux pas was to enter the same subject in two consecutive challenges. Here's that night shot you wanted Kelly & b.c.)

Canon EOS 40D ,Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM
1/50s f/4.0 at 176.0mm iso3200 full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

OK, I have deleted 'neon II' in favor of this shot. My thanks to Kelly, John & tv for their comments which helped me decide which one would go. Also thanks to Kelly & Penny Street who liked the other more (so do I, it's posted on my Flickr gallery:http://www.flickr.com/photos/shootina710is/ ), I think this is more on topic.

Tom, I like that you increased the exposure to get the glow. An additional side effect is that you got that interesting supporting wire to bask in the glow of neon and the letter's reflections to compete with the letters. John

I'm saying nothing until Lonnit wakes up:-)
