Very nice shot, Yvonne. It really is an improvement over the flowers. I love the tender shades of white to brown, the shallow DOF and the interestig composition.

Isn't that one of the fun things about these challenges? I find that I may not be too pleased with some of my entries (nor are too many others, apparently LOL), but I'm always learning something from people's comments and suggestions. After all, the point of these challenges is to improve our photography, isn't it? This time I learned a bit more about color channels and desaturation in levels, as well as some settings in USM that I never would have thought of before. Someone also mentioned some techniques using the magnetic lasso and adding background blur, but I need a lot more practice with that. I'd like to see some of your other shell photos. Is there a link?

Hi Friends, I thank-you all for the comments. That flower shot stunk. I loved the composition of it but when I reshot it for more clarity in better lighting, it just did not do it for me. I also hauled out some Hawaii sand and reshot this shell on the sand today and played with the f stop and shutter speed. It was a good learning experience but I ended up liking this shot better than any of the ones I took today. I did get soem really nice clear images and some good shots of other shells on the sand. (thanks Jano) The colors work better here. Yvonne

Looks great just as it is, well done Yvonne.

I'm glad you replaced the other one, Yvonne, as it was just too problematic. This shot is most impressive. Good composition and nice muted tones.

Beautiful curves and texture

This is a very pleasant surprise for a moment there I thought I'd missed this one.
A very nice composition and DOF. I can't say it looks overexposed, sand would be a nice touch but the fabric's color and texture pairs well with this beautiful shell.

Very nice Yvonne - i love all the different beige, white and brown here. I think placing this shell on some sand (which you can get fairly cheap at a hardware store like Lowes or Home Depot, etc) would really make this stand out. I'm envisioning some sand granuals.... jano

i cant resist. i have to say this...'very erotic!' ;)
would you be able to try it with a little faster shutter and same aperture please? i feel like, some very nice texure is getting lost in over-exposed area. i like the idea nonetheless. -Abstract
