8 West Coast, Sri Lanka

Photos of a drive from Anuradhapura down the west coast of Sri Lanka in November 2012 via Puttalam, Chilaw and Negombo to Colombo. Driving from Jaffna to Colombo in one day would have been too tiring so I insisted on breaking the journey at Anuradhapura and undertaking the journey in two easier stages. On the second day, the driver decided on the west coast route, for which I was thankful because I had thought of visiting the west coast but was not sure that it would be worthwhile.
A feature of the journey was stopping for a break at two rest houses of great character and unknown to Lonely Planet, one at Puttalam and one at Chilaw. The one at Puttalam in particular is charming.
