Thanks to being voted 'Asia's Most Beautiful City' by a major travel magazine and named a World Heritage Site by Unesco, Hội An is one of Vietnam's premier stops for tourists with the advantage of luxury resorts on the nearby coast. After dark it is magical and on our first visit it became an instant favorite!
Hội An is a city on Vietnams central coast known for its well-preserved Ancient Town, cut through with canals. The former port citys melting-pot history is reflected in its architecture, a mix of eras and styles from wooden Chinese shophouses and temples to colorful French colonial buildings, ornate Vietnamese tube houses and the iconic Japanese Covered Bridge with its pagoda.
It is a well-preserved example of a small-scale trading port active in the 15th to 19th centuries which traded widely, both with the countries of Southeast and East Asia and with the rest of the world. After its decline in the later 19th century it retained its traditional appeal to a remarkable degree.
