Bodie Ghost Town

Bodie, California is a genuine gold-mining ghost town located in the Bodie Hills of Mono County, near the Nevada border. Designated a State Historic Park in 1962, the town is preserved in a state of "arrested decay", meaning the remaining 110 structures are maintained exactly as they were when abandoned by residents in the 1940s.
Although it's down a bumpy, dusty 13-mile road off Highway 395, north of Mono Lake, it is heavily visited. It is especially popular with photographers and increasingly popular with European visitors.
