Cambodia is a land of surprises. Once the centre of Indochina, its decline started in the 15th century. In the past few decades, it has undergone horrific experiences, including the invasion by Vietnam and the massacre of over 2 million citizens by Pol Pot. Together with the murder of all intellectuals in Cambodia and the obliteration of its education system and infrastructure, Cambodia is literally starting from zero. Yet, its people are resilient, calm and resolute, optimistic that despite the harsh conditions, where even basic requirements like electricity and running water are not available, better times will come.

Cambodia houses the magnificent Angkor Wat, and a host of Hindu and Buddhist temples. Definitely worth a visit at least once in a lifetime!
