Pushkar Camel Fair - India 2003

I visited the Pushkar Camel Fair for about a week this year, shooting many rolls of film. I will update this gallery regularly, as I wade through the pictures, so keep checking back every now and then.

Yet another exciting story of India! I was late for the event by one day last year(arrived in Pushkar on Nov 3rd)! Your great pictures have reminded me once again what I have missed! Thank you. My respect and a big vote!

Monique, your pictures capture the festive and exotic feelings to experience at the Pushkar Camel Fair. I was there in Nov. 2000 as part of a second visit to the India I love. My travel agent arranged for a car and driver to get me to the Fair and to stay in the Swiss Tents. The Swiss tents are a compound of over 1000 tents, with banquet hall, outdoor arena for evening entertainment. I loved every minute of the huge variety of color, smells, dress, people, animals. I know this is annoying but is there any way that you can think of that I could find the name of the hotel. i don't t hink I can just arrive without booking a hotel in advance and am having problems as all I can find online are e xpensive places. will you email me at jenny@jennyacheson.com. I can't wait to go - it sounds like I will be doing exactly the same as you did!! hope to hear from you, jenny

Hi Jenny, I just arrived at the station, there will be loads of people there to offer you a room, I stayed in a fairly new hotel, OK and not too expensive. I walked around on my own during the day, at night, early morning, in the dark, never felt unsafe. I know there is a beautiful and not too expensive hotel with rooms around a central courtyard, also very close to the festival itself, but I do not recall the name. It is in the street with all the market stands with Rajasthan textile, I would try there, as it was a lovely hotel, with a terrace and all.

the pictures /photo are very clear /colourfull. if one does have a chance to see pushkar fair then atleat one can get the idea how is pushkar fair. i will use some of this picture for my website to be constructed shortly. great work. did i miss meeting you in year 2003 ???? great work keep it up. kamal gupta from delhi /india.
