Samoa's liveliest island, Upolu

Once a German colony, Samoa was later administered by New Zealand. Today the former Western Samoa is an independent nation, a member of the British Commonwealth. Samoa consists essentially of two major islands, Upolu and Savai'i (whilst to the east, the island of Tutuila lies within the U.S. territory of American Samoa). Many Samoans have emigrated to Australia and New Zealand.

Apia, the Samoan capital, spreads along the northern shore of Upolu. To the west lie the international airport and the nearby ferry wharf for the Savai'i Island car ferry. Along the eastern and southern coasts are such attractions as the To Sua Ocean Trench and a number of waterfalls. Not to mention some striking churches towering over humble villages...
