Beijing, 'Northern Capital'

Beijing, capital of the People's Republic of China, has taken up the mantle once worn by Peking, capital of the old Chinese Empire. Highlights include the Temple of Heaven, the Forbidden City and the infamous Tiananmen Square, as well as the futuristic architecture of the showpiece projects commissioned for the 2008 Olympic Games.

The Summer Palace is a sprawling complex that probably would require more than a day to take it all in. Sore feet guaranteed!

Many memories of my trips there. The Summer Palace in particular, is a favourite.
