Bamboo Sea, Sichuan, 2013

The Bamboo Sea is a tract of rugged hill country in southern Sichuan ('Shunan') clothed in bamboo forests and conserved - at least in theory - within a national park.

This being China, other people are never far away, whether dressed in Buddhist robes or red satin party dresses.

Two cable ways provide dramatic views whilst telescoping the ground to be covered in taking in the most scenic areas. Something is quite magic about looking out over a mountainside covered in feathery, gently waving bamboo. Read more.
