"Beast of Burden"

The Mayan women in Guatemala have been described as the "beasts of burden" by some.
Their hard lifestyle certainly makes it seem this way. Many in these villages are married by
the age of twelve or thirteen, and have had several children by the time they are seventeen.
They do all the cooking, cleaning, child-rearing, laundry, work at the markets selling, plus,
they weave their fabrics and make their own clothes!
This gallery is a tribute to the lives of the Mayan women of Guatemala.

I believe women of all nationalities carry a "Beast of Burden" in theor own ways. This is a wonderful tribute to women, especially in Guatemala. Your pictures say volumes. Great work. Thanks for sharing.

Carol, I have a similar passion for Guatemala. is a great place. My Guatemala gallery is under work now but I hope you will pass by when is done. I loved all pictures in this gallery but my favorites are 'Working" and "Weaving". Thanks for sharing! this brings back lots of nice memories.

An excellent tribute to the women doing hard work ! A humble simple gallery. No fireworks nor flashy scenes to bring out the subtle details of their lives. The photos are beautiful, each one has a story in itself. Truly excellent !!
