The communities of the Mississippi Gulf Coast were thoroughly devastated by Hurricane Katrina. I'll let these photos tell the story.

HELLO FROM KNOXVILLE TENNESSEE---> TO ALL OF NEW ORLEANS----I WANT YOU TO KNOW IM A HURRICANE SURVIVOR TOO AND ONCE YOUVE BEEN THROUGH IT YOULL NEVER BE THE SAME....JUST LIKE 9-11 WE WILL NEVER FORGET! YOUR CITY WAS BEAUTIFUL AND WILL BE AGAIN. I PLAN TO VISIT NEXT YEAR. AS WITH THE HURRICANE I WENT THROUGH (HURRICANE HUGO-1989 CHARLESTON, S.C.) IT HAS LEFT SCARS THAT HAVE NEVER HEALED. AS I WATCHED THE COVERAGE OF KATRINA, EVERY DAY AND SOMETIMES DID NOT SLEEP I KNEW HOW HELPLESS YOU EACH FELT. I FEEL SO SAD THAT OUR GOVERNMENT IN THE GREAT USA CANT HELP OUR OWN AS WELL AS WE SEEM TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE FOR OTHER COUNTRIES. NEW ORLEANS WILL RISE AGAIN AND THE NINETH WARD NEEDS TO REBUILD AND BRING THEIR FAMILIES HOME! I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER AND NEVER FORGET...MAY GOD BLESS THE GREAT STATE OF LA.

Thanks for posting this extensive gallery. Now living near Greenville, SC (on a great, big hill...), my wife and I were residents of Waveland for 13 years and have taken the liberty to post comments on a couple of your photos. You even got a photo of our pilings and our neighbor's faux Easter Island statue next door. It was a great life in a wonderful small community but what will replace it...?

I've been meaning to comment on your pics. They are wonderful... I can't believe you got pictures of my boy Jim Cantory. I sure have a lot to learn. Thanks for sharing. I forawded the link to all my buddys. Thanks again. Did You seen the news the other night. They showed a quick segment on Pass Christian. I think it lasted about 2 minuts if that.

thanks Steve for commenting in my gallery, we traveled the same ground and experienced the same devistation! a life changing event that I will never forget! Great shots in here and glad you and your family are safe and sound. These shots will allow us to never forget the wrath of mother nature, so we remember to live each day to the fullest, for our futures are unknown!

Thank you so much for posting these. I grew up in Mississippi...Ocean Springs to be exact. Although, I was born in Biloxi, on the airforce base. I must say, i've been going crazy up here in Birmingham (displaced from Slidell, LA)trying to find out what it looks like down there. I got to see Biloxi and North Biloxi when I went to see my dad, on our way back from salvaging what we could in Slidell. But the news here is only covering New Orleans and it's driving me mad. So I must say, as horrible as it is to see my home state in ruines, I'm very happy I came across these photos. Thank you and God Bless.

I have been waiting for these; I'm sure more will be pouring in. I see the results of Katrina with much greater clarity through the eyes of Pbase, than through the over-exposure of the television media. I'll be back to the gallery as time permits.
