Technique for using the Canon XH-A1 with the Sony CF recorderhttp://vimeo.com/14887909

Turning the XH-A1 into a solid state Camcorder with the Sony MRC1K recorder is done by connecting the two via a 6-pin to 4-pin Firewire cable. Unfortunately, the Canon XH-A1 can sometimes cause the Sony device to mistake the camera for a computer. This seems to happen the first time the devices are connected. The procedure shown in this video solves the problem consistently. Thereafter, the devices behave properly through power and sleep operations. I've noticed the problem will reappear after the devices have both been powered off for 30 minutes or more. No worries, rinse and repeat this procedure. YMMV.
