Big Island of Hawaii

Pictures from the Big Island of Hawaii the southermost of the major islands.
Hilo, an old town on the East side of the Big Island of Hawaii is one of the wettest cities in the USA. (About 125 inches per year.)
Hilo grew to prominence not only because of it wonderful harbor facilities
but it also became the crossroads between the small towns along the Hamakua coast and the volcano side.
Other small towns like Onomea, Waimea, Hawi, Honomu, and Keaau abound.

you have the most beautiful hilo pics! i am from hilo but living in las vegas (school and then work) and haven't gone home for over 2 years. i don't really get homesick but these pictures make me miss home liek crazy. i totally forgot how beautiful the big island is!

Fabulous photos, the plants and flowers, the old buildings, the moon-set, the hapu'u, the little slug...great stuff. I'm glad you're documenting the buildings especially, it's only a matter of time before someone decides Hilo needs a condo or two. I hope they have a Historic Preservation organization. EG

Selvin, what a wonderful collection of Big Island photos! I was thinking about the farmer's market in Hilo just this morning and then found your gallery. Thank you for reviving pleasant memories of my 10 years on the "Hilo side"! I hope you tried the malasadas when you were at Tex Drive In! Sorry to hear the fish auction is over.
