July 21: Main Street – Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs, CO

Many natives of Colorado Springs (some of my relatives included) think that this statue of Spencer Penrose (as he looks west toward Pikes Peak) ought to be named "Penrose takes a dump!"

This man was one of the major benefactors to Colorado Springs, and being placed at the intersection of Pikes Peak Ave, and Nevada Ave, ("busy corner") is a signal honor. Of course 350,000 people later, the center of town has moved far east out in suburbia.

Here is a front shot of him ** overlooking the city.**

In case you would like to know about the early gold mining days in Cripple Creek, here is a history of **Spencer Penrose ** and Charles Tutt.

interesting, before I read your comment I thought to myself "doesn't it look like a statue of a man taking a dump" (seriously). Interesting perspective on the city. I quite like this photo and I think Penrose would be chuffed (to quote my kings english speaking friends).

Very nice angle and good job with the perspective correction.

I think he looks better from the front. Nice wide shot.

Never seen this one. Interesting story though. Great link re: Cripple Creek...you know that town is close to my heart.

@Bandito... yes I supplied strong perspective correction. How'd you know?

That town sure is a dump. Some people are famous for the darndest things.

Seriously, another nice shot and slice of history. I'm going to spend some time at that link you put in there.

You didn't by any chance do some perspective correction on this one, did ya?
