August 17: On Final - Runway 27

San Diego, CA

The “normal” approach for all flights landing at San Diego’s Lindbergh Field. The long lens doesn’t tell the entire picture, here is a panorama of the same scene.
The airplane is not quite as close to the near buidlings as it seems...probably about 3/4 to 1 mile north of them.

Taken Aug. 15 but I HAD to post it.

Canon EOS 10D ,Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM
f/6.7 @1/500th. 125mm. 200 ISO

A haunting reminder of that day in 2001.

What I want to know is, who lives in those POSH apartments up top!!??

Wow Robin, this is a very nice shot, and as the others have already said, brings back some aweful memories of 9/11 for sure, I thought 9/11 before I even read the comments, I was sure I would see comments referring to it though, how could one not think of it? Loved your pano BTW.

9/11 is the first thing that came to mind when I saw the thumb. gave me an eerie feeling...
You did a wonderful job on this. Well timed!

Seems that you reached your goals with that picture, Robin. It is quite hard to look at it without thinking back in history for a few years.
RodTO18-Aug-2004 06:03
Ditto the 9-11 thing... nice shot!
Jude Marion18-Aug-2004 06:00

This is a wonderful photo Robin, but it just makes me way too uneasy. In fact I got the chills when I first saw it. But yes, it is excellent.

Great timing and fantastic frame of the plane by the towers. And about the 9/11 feeling this photo has, I recomend to go to my PaD today HERE

Really great light with this one, sure does have that 9/11 feel.

katwilkens17-Aug-2004 20:23
Lovely light, great timing!

Superb. A similar sight can be seen in Lisbon, as the 'planes approaching the airport from the south come in over the city, and they pass two tall towers (called the Twin Towers) in the Sete Rios district.

Looks like you were out on Coronado. Great shot. I'll be playing out there this weekend down at Lowe's Resort.
Graham Whitehead17-Aug-2004 20:13
Great shot, the plane fills the patch of empty sky nicely. The shot would still be good without it, but it was worth waiting till one came by.

Really cool shot! great timing. It looks as if those buildings are mad at eachother and won't look at eachother.
Guest 17-Aug-2004 16:26
Great shot. Just from the thumbnail, I knew it was San Diego.
Kenneth Zimmerman17-Aug-2004 16:26
It does have a 9/11 feel. Let's hope we don't go through that again!!!
Guest 17-Aug-2004 16:24
This is a great shot Robin, but it does have a haunting echo of 911, and some of your viewers may be offended. I am not offended, but I thought I'd put you on alert. You truly do live in a beautiful city!
Costi Jacky 17-Aug-2004 16:24
Ohh, what a great catch. Beautiful.
Gary Winters17-Aug-2004 16:17
