Wow! What a dramatic and imposing cloud! This is quite spectacular. I am forgetting my clouds type names, maybe a cumulo-nimbus cloud?

Awesome cloud. Looks like it takes over the whole area. Lou's right-it takes on the shape of the mountain.

Beautiful image, Robin. If you're desperate, perhaps Arnie can arrange to import some of our excess water (of which there is plenty)

Awesome thunderheads there. Did you get a lot of rain from it?
Cindy18-Aug-2004 20:29
Wowser Robin, this is awesome, I have never seen clouds quite that high and thick, and what interesting info about them taking shape of the mountains. So....did it rain??
Lou Giroud18-Aug-2004 19:29
Have you found out now, Robin, or perhaps you knew it, that clouds allways take the shape of the mountains on the top. Here you can see clearly that the top of the cumulus has the same horizon line as the mountain chain below.
Nice shot and very instructrive.

It's amazing how fast those clouds can build. They can climb to over 50,000 feet.
