Muerren, a tiny village in the Bernese Oberland, sits at 5,000 feet, about halfway up the Schilthorn. It's inaccessible by car; I had to park down in the valley in the town of Lauterbrunnen and take a very steep cog railway up to the town. I stayed there for several days, enjoying breathtaking views from my balcony at the hotel Eiger.
