On the first day of Oktoberfest, Mike and I met two very nice couples, one from Frankfurt and one from Graz, Austria. After we ate at one of the "restaurant tents," the six of us went to one of the large beer tents. There were about 12,000 people inside, and I think most of them started drinking around 10:00 that morning. The crowds were incredibly well-behaved; everyone was just there to have a good time and meet people. After we sat down, we met another couple from Germany and a couple from Iraq. The strangest thing I've ever done happened that night: we danced on the tables to "YMCA" with about 12,000 people. Even the Iraqis knew the proper "YMCA" gestures. It was bizarre.
