almost a desert and Madrid is also dry, but Galicia receives a large amount of rain. In tourists
shops you can buy replicas of the chicken coups that are used in Galicia. They are built up on
blocks to keep from flooding. The buildings in Santiago de Compostela are designed so that the
second floor hangs out over the street. This keeps pedestrians dry during the rain.
