Karnak in Egyptian means 'the most perfect places', and for 1,500 years this was the most important place of worship dedicated to their great God of Amun. Much more than a temple, it was a complex of temples, chapels, pylons, obelisks and sancturies. Every pharaoh built, destroyed, enlarged, rebuilt or restored part of the complex to express his/her devotion to Amun. Architectually, the papyrus pillars in Great Hypostyle Hall are most spectacular and are not to be missed.
