Luxor was called Thebes in ancient Egypt and was the capital of upper Egypt. The township including the temples are located on the eastern side of River Nile representing 'the livings', while the tombs are on the western side of the river representing 'the deads'. We were supposed to board on the cruise at Luxor but due to the low water level of the Nile, the cruise had berthed at Esna, about 60km to the south.
