GENUS BASIAESCHNA

Springtime Darner

One of the earliest flying and smallest of the Aeshnidae family. Measuring 2.0 - 2.5 inches, males will fly rapidly up and down
along the banks of small streams and calm rivers. They will feed in fields and open woods. Often found perching near the
ground on sticks or weeds. Males patrol mostly in midday but are also found flying in the shade and late evening.
