Weather disrupted our original vacation plans of trekking the Stubai Route in Austria and while we enjoyed plan B of hiking in the Dolomites, the weather continued to be less than ideal. We wanted to trade snow for sand and decided to wing a trip to Cinque Terre. It was a long travel day on buses and trains to Cinque Terre from the Dolomites and we broke up the travel with a night in Verona. I did not know anything about Verona before this trip and did some hasty research, including securing lodging, on the iPad before leaving the Dolomites. We had less than 24 hours in the city and had no set plan except for heading towards the general area of the main attractions like the Verona Arena. We purchased a small guide book at the hotel and set out to explore the city. We saw some of the major sites like the Arena, Juliet's house, Piazza delle Erbe, Castelvecchio, and the views from Piazzele Castel San Pietro, but also wandered down small alleyways and through smaller, less crowded piazzas. Every way we turned there was something neat to see. I loved the architecture from the large churches to the small details like interesting windows, doorways, lanterns, flowers, and brick walls. I found Verona to be a beautiful, vibrant city and am glad we had the chance (although brief) to explore and soak it all in.
