Northern Hawk Owl Banding 2009

Dr. Jim Duncan...a biologist with Manitoba Conservation and his wife Patsy have been studying and banding Hawk Owls here in Manitoba since 1984. They have also banded large numbers of Great Gray Owls. Thanks Jim and Patsy for the opportunity to see a banding process first hand. (explanations are under photos)

Hi Dennis - I saw this story on Shaw Cable a while back. A great opportunity to get the hawk owl up close. Had a look at some of your other galleries also - excellent work. I'll have to stick to slower moving birds (e.g. grouse) up here in Pinawa.

I thoroughly enjoyed your series! A wonderful documentation, and marvelous dedication of the doctor and his wife. Having banded birds and the struggle and fear of them...they certainly have the technique down to reduce a lot of stress. Bravo in every way!
