The Northern Hawk Owl (Surnia ulula) are medium sized owls measuring 14-18 in. tall with a wing span of 28 in. and weigh between 1/2 to 1 lb. One of the few owls that hunt by day. They are able to spot prey up to a 1/2 mile away.
