This wide, straight stretch of water in a wild area of West Haven CT
looks like a 4000 foot runway from the air! It was dug by Yale to provide
a practice area for the rowing team to develop their skill with skulls.
It would also be a venue for intercollegiate regattas.
The area was declared a wetland and the plan was abandoned.
You can see an Osprey nest on a platform in the marshes.
The inset above it shows what I think is a young osprey. I waited awhile in
the 94 degree heat in hopes a parent would return and bring her/him a fish.
