Situated between the Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon Peninsular, this deep-water sheltered harbor gave the city its name, which, in Chinese, means fragrant harbor. With this sole natural resource and its hard working residents, Hong Kong grew from a small fishing village into an international metropolis.
Years ago, cargo ships used to anchor in the middle of the harbor. Now, they berth at the Kwai Tsing Container Terminals to the northwest, which is the world’s largest container port.
