Tomb of Napoleon

The tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) is located under an 86-ft diameter gilded Baroque dome in Les Invalides complex, which was originally constructed as a military hospital during the reign of Louis XIV. In 1840, a crypt was evacuated beneath the dome to make room for the sarcophagus of Napoleon, whose remain was brought back from St. Helena. Today, this complex of buildings also houses several museum and monuments, all relating to the military history of France.
