WATERLILY
Here, three stages of a waterlily or lotus:
a bud, a bloom, a golden leaf.

But don’t forget the stages before these three
hidden except to a fish
or occasional salamander,
the mud, the dark below the surface,
the strong and twisted roots and stems
snaking up toward the light.

And stages after,
reaching up to the beyond,
the Thousand-Petaled Lotus of Pure Consciousness.
